Unraveling the mysteries of light.
in the previous release was a spectroscope from a CD. This will do the same apparatus but the grating will be available from a DVD, which has many more lines per millimeter than CD.
The DVD has a distance between "groove" and "groove" of 0.74 microns, which represents about 1,351 lines per millimeter linear. The width of "groove" is 0.32 microns. If we compare these values with those of the CD, it is clear that the density of information that can store a DVD is higher because it has greater number of lines per millimeter.
The design of the tubes of the spectroscope, we repeat the calculations made for the construction of previous spectral apparatus.
The spectroscope also fabricate building cardboard models of 2 mm thick, sometimes called in kilo carton 2.
To determine the angle of deviation to be the eyepiece to the tube of admission solve the equation which defines the diffraction angle (θ) which undergoes a light beam passing through a diffraction grating:
Sen (θ) = m × λ / d
Where:
θ = diffraction angle of the optical axis .
λ = wavelength radiation (light).
d = constant of the diffraction grating. (Separation between line and line of the network)
m = diffraction order. In our case the first order, m = 1 to obtain a bright spectrum resolution change.
The visible spectrum ranges from wavelengths of 0.4 microns to 0.7 microns purple and red for approx. Our
grating made from the DVD has a lattice constant of 0.74 microns.
With these values of wavelength, of the constant of the network and use the diffraction of the first order, we determine by solving the equation above the diffraction angles extremes
For Violet, θ = 33 °
For the Red , θ = 71 °
The average angle between the two colors we determine the deflection or tilt of the ocular tube with respect to the intake pipe, the average angle is 52 degrees.
length eyepiece should establish it according to the "W" that we have of the rainbow. In this project, the observed width of the rainbow is 20 mm as in the previous case.
The dispersion value of the diffraction grating allows for both ends of the visible spectrum is 38 º (red angle less the angle of purple). We can construct a triangle with adjacent side equal to the length of the eyepiece sought, the opposite leg equal to half the width of the rainbow searched (10 mm) and angle between the hypotenuse and adjacent side equal to half the angle covered by diffraction (19 °).
Hence the length is defined by: L = 10/Tg
(19 º)
length eyepiece tube: 30 mm.
In this case, the slit collimator having the same dimensions as above, but the distance of this network to be of 20 cm focal length.
For the diffraction grating from the DVD is another procedure to that used in the CD as the construction technology is different. Unlike the CD, the platinum layer DVD is contained between two optical plastic discs, one of the disks is attached to the sign face and the other contains the "rows."
To remove the platinum layer we have to separate the two disks. This operation is delicate and dangerous because it requires an exact or scalpel, trying to enter the edge of the tool between the edges of the two discs, the risks are high Cortana fingers and then we have to take all necessary safety provisions.
Once the tip of our sharp tool penetrates between the two discs, we separate them very carefully, checking and looking for the silver layer is left attached to the disk that has the album cover.
The following images show the procedure:

Slit (mask).
The position of the slit collimator with respect to the mask in this case is remarkably asymmetric due to the diffraction angle as pronounced for red (71 º), with the intention that the spectrum reproduced by the network diffraction is centered with respect to the axis of the slit collimator eyepiece tube is not centered in the mask, the following image shows the extreme angles of diffraction of light rays from the slit and centered it.
remember that the mask is very important to improve the optical quality of the instrument.
not forget that by placing the diffraction grating, the broader lines are down and this can be determined by observing diffraction in a fan that produces the network obtained of the DVD, is also the case that the spectroscope made on CD.
To avoid internal reflections in the spectral unit, painted it flat black internally.
Final appearance of spectroscopy, anterior and posterior.
In making our first observations we note that the spectral image created by this spectroscope is broader than that obtained with the device made from the CD. This is what should happen as the network achieved with the DVD has more lines per millimeter, more than double, allowing a higher angle of diffraction and higher resolving power.
As platinum layer is not entirely drive off leaving a half-silvered thin film of reflective material, the images obtained with this apparatus are darker and "poor" than previous spectroscopy, however you can feel his best power to observe the spectra separation discontinuous discharge lamps.
This release complements the previous one, allowing us to observe some behavior and the phenomenon of optical diffraction and constant influence on the same network as the crack improves the quality of the spectral images and find which is the foundation directly spectrographic analysis to observe the patterns emitted by different flash lamps.
