A 516 YEARS OF THE DISCOVERY OF AMERICA AND 4 YEARS OF DISCOVERY OF VENEZUELA barbarism. A 516 YEARS OF THE DISCOVERY OF AMERICA AND 4 YEARS OF DISCOVERY Of barbarism in VENEZUELA.
True Venezuelans look with amazement as a group of people on 12 October of 2004, believed to be on your right, incited and manipulated by others viciously opportunistic obscure personal interests, which took advantage of the ignorance of the protesters to topple the statue of Christopher Columbus, which under the foolish and inopportune slogan of "indigenous resistance day" carried out an act of vandalism destroying a nation's cultural heritage, as it was a work of art 100 years old.
October 12 marks the sighting of the first islands of what would later be the new continent.
This day has changed names over the years in our recent history ... "race day" .... "Day of discovery of America ..." encounter of two worlds ... and lately the "indigenous resistance day" ... Of all these qualifications, I believe that the most successful is the encounter of two worlds ", because that's what occurred with the arrival of three ships, the discovery of a party of the existence of two very different worlds with the natural consequences are created when two cultures collide strange.
What happened that morning of October 12, 1492 we can recreate from the records kept by one of the most important eyewitness accounts of the expedition:
... Two hours after midnight seemed the land which would be two leagues. Love all the candles, and left with the treo, which is the largest sailing without bonnets, and stood to the corda, timed to the day Friday, they reached a small island of Lucayos, called in Indian language Guanahani. Then came naked people, and the Admiral went ashore in the armed boat, and Martin Alonso Vicente Yanez Pinzon and his brother, who was captain of the NiƱa. The Admiral took out the royal flag and the captains with two flags of the Green Cross, bearing the Admiral on all ships by signal, with an F and a Y: each letter his crown, one of one end of the cross and one from another. Grounding saw very green trees and many waters and fruit in various ways. The Admiral called the two captains and others who jumped on the ground, and Rodrigo de Escobedo, notary of the entire fleet, and Rodrigo Sanchez of Segovia, and said to give him by faith and witness what was taking him to all, as actually took, possession of the island by the King and Queen their Gentlemen, with the protests that were required, as longer contained in the testimonies were written there. After attaching here there are many people on the island. That which follows are words of the admiral, in his book of its first navigation and discovery of these Indies. + I, "he says, because we had to take great friendship because people knew it was best rid and converted to our Holy Faith by love not by force, I gave some of them some red caps and some glass beads that were placed around their necks, and many other things of little value, they had a lot of pleasure and were both of ours who was wonderful. Which later came to the boats of the ships where we were, swimming, and brought us parrots and cotton thread in balls and javelins and many other things, and we exchanged for the other things we gave them, such as glass beads and bells. In short, everything took and gave of what had goodwill. But I thought it was very poor in everything. They all go naked as their mothers bore them, and women too, but I saw no more of a sick girl. And all I saw were all young men, old saw that no more than thirty years, very well done, very nice bodies and good faces, thick hair, almost like silk ponytail and shorts: hair bring above the eyebrows, but a few behind which they wear long, never cut. Of them are painted in dark-skinned, and they are the color of canaries neither black nor white, and they are painted white and colored them, and what they are, and they paint their faces , of whom the whole body, and eyes by themselves, and of these only the nose. They do not carry arms nor know, because I showed them swords and they took along the edge and cut themselves through ignorance. They have no iron: their spears are sticks without iron one, and some of them have to fish out a tooth, and other things ...
In the letter to the King of Spain about the discovery of new continent Columbus wrote:
... The people of this island and all the others I have found and have been news, all go naked, men and women and their mothers give birth, although some women harbor a single location with a blade of grass or a cotton cap that they do. They have no iron or steel, nor weapons, nor are they to do so, not because people are pretty well prepared and height, except that they are too afraid to wonder. They have no weapons other than those arms of the reeds, when the seed, which put after a sharp stick, and those do not dare use it many times happened to send me down two or three men to some town to have speech and they go out to them without number, and then they saw them reach fled, not waiting for father to son and this not because no one has done wrong, before, after all has been and where I could have Fabla them I gave everything I had, so many other things as cloth, without receiving anything, but are fearful and hopeless. Truth is, after insured and lose this fear, they are so guileless and so liberal they have, they would not believe but that I saw it. Of thing they have, ask for it, never say no, before they invite the person with it, and show much love to give their hearts, and they want to be anything of value, who is of little value, then for any Cosic, in whatever way it is put, so will happy. I argued that I should give things were not so civilized as pieces of broken bowls, and pieces of broken glass, and ends of shoelaces though, when they could get it, they seemed to have the best jewel in the world, which have hit a sailor a lace, gold weight of two and a half castellanos, and others of other things that were worth much less, much more, and by new white gave all they had for them, but they were two or three castellanos of gold or an arroba or two of spun cotton ...
of these stories just show that the proposed indigenous resistance never existed, at least on this side of the continent and during the early stages of what would later colonization. The peoples who suffered most from the consequences of this meeting were the Mexican and Andean South America.
deny our history, to deny our heritage is to deny our existence, is like denying our forefathers, is "throwing" the family. Unfortunately for some supposedly nationalist consciousness are only driven by inexplicable resentment (feel resentment for a fact that occurred for more than 500 years, is to show great mental poverty.) Refuse to accept an irreversible reality, an event sooner or later going to happen. They have no choice but to accept that the vast majority of Venezuelans are not pure "original race", we are a mosaic that began 516 years ago, cast a kaleidoscope of nationalities in time and space resulting product to what we ...
